Heehee, my Who-fix has been administered.

Favourite bits:

Doctor: We might die.
Martha: We might not.

Martha: It's bigger on the inside
Doctor: *mouths words with her* - Is it??

Clever Doctor and his 'pretend to be human' ploy.

Clever Martha - just in general. She's gonna make a brilliant companion. Ooh, but she's such a little liar! She fancies the pants off him, it's obvious.

Eyebrows!

Rusty seems to like this whole 'breath of life' idea.

Hospital shop!

Nice use of causal loop. In the first episode too! Anyone coming new to the series today will have been thoroughly confused, unless they already had a handle on time travel theory. And parents will have to explain the tie thing to their four-year-olds - they can't follow stuff that happened 45 minutes beforehand.

Radiation in his shoe... *giggle* "Barefoot on the moon!"

"A Judoon platoon upon the moon" - he likes his rhyming, does the Doctor.

Yay for evidence (if not mention) of the respiratory bypass system!

Death by straw! I'm reminded of the Psirens from Red Dwarf. Also cos of mentions of salt, the salt vampire from TOS.

Emmeline Pankhurst stole his laser spanner! :oD Also mention of Benjamin Franklin and rope-burn from the kite and electrocution, which was very amusing.

I read the times2 supplement from Friday's Times today at work, because there was a very non-spoilery article and interview. David Tennant said something about Rusty liking to drop things in and then not come back to them "because it's funny" (eg "I was a dad once") - he said there's another one and "the forums will go into meltdown". I can see which one he meant - I'm certain there was mention of a brother near the beginning of the episode! Not sure how I feel about this, given that there are no brothers in the Houses on Gallifrey, only cousins. Then again that's book-canon, which I don't really count... I'm stopping, cos I'll only get confused.

Finally, there is mention of a 'Mr Saxon'. Now, it's not an anagram, but I have my suspicions...

I took my TARDIS keyring (the really cool 3D one that I will never attach to my keys cos I'd hate for it to get damaged) to Adam's to wave around on the end of its chain when the theme music played. Like the one on the screen. And I snaffled some fridge magnets from SFX when I was stripping magazines at work the other week, so I took the Ten and Martha magnet to ... um, to show them themselves on the telly... *ahem*
Rassilon's underpants, I'm so sad :o)

I even brought a straw...

I can't remember any mention of 'Mr Saxon', and I thought the "not anymore" brother thing was about the Time War...

It was good, and I'm glad Martha isn't Rose mk II but it left me a bit confused. Why was the Doctor in the hospital in the first place? Why did the episode turn so very Eastenders-y with the whole dsyfunctional family having a fair bit of viewing time? and what was with the kiss which was, in my view, for someone who can build a sonic screwdriver from scratch a bit pointless?

I know that sounds like I hated it, but now I think about it, maybe I was a bit overcritical, having dived into the classic stuff recently.

Anyway, I was completely reduced to utter squee, so that can only be a good thing. XD

Dialogue was good though, funny and clever. I laughed at the straw thing for too long! Can't wait for the next one! *squees a bit*

Mr Saxon was mentioned at the end - on the telly when Martha's getting ready for her brother's party, there's a med student from the hospital saying how his experience confirms Mr Saxon's theory about life beyond Earth. And there's a 'Vote Saxon' poster or two behind Martha when she's speaking to the Doctor outside the TARDIS at the end.

Yeah, that's the assumption, but it's the fact that he mentioned his family again. I think it's the planting of ideas in fans heads about who the brother could've been... And the forums on Outpost Gallifrey did go into meltdown :o) There is much speculation, and many think that a certain bearded someone is his brother. I maintain that they are cousins! But that kinda hinges on the Looms and other stuff from 'Lungbarrow'. Despite not seeing the books as canon, I've kinda accepted the whole 'artificial genetic recombination' thing as how new Gallifreyans are made, and I'm reluctant to give that up in favour of sexual reproduction and baby Time Lords.

The Doctor was in the hospital because he knew there was something going on and had to get inside to check it out, and as a patient he would have a valid reason to be there. And I think the Eastenders-ish bits were part Rusty being Rusty and part "look how fed up Martha is with her family, this is why she accepts the Doctor's offer to escape for a bit". And the kiss was to give Martha a bit of non-human DNA for the scanners to pick up, to delay the Judoon for a bit. And he didn't have the screwdriver at the time, so it was the quickest and easiest way.

There was much squeeing here too :o) Adam's such a fangirl *grins*

I was wondering about that...

Causal loops are love. And paradoxes, I love me some paradoxes. I have the mind for them.

Yes, causal loops & paradoxes are great, especially when used as plot devices and/or for shippy-purposes.

I figured that I'd respond to this one on your lj instead of flooding the comments over at [livejournal.com profile] lifeonmartha with completely non comm stuff. lol

I have the advantage of having grown up all over the place when it comes to slang...and languages. I can say 'hello' in 29 of them. I just happen to be used to mostly american slang because the bulk of my flist is from the states...although I can get away with a lot of Aussie/Kiwi stuff too because they're used to me.

And yes I am a Kiwi. From Christchurch in the South Island. I spent most of my childhood though in Aussie and then later Hawai'i. Auckland in winter isn't that bad. Auckland is subtropical and can be rather warm. The NZ weather you're discribing sounds more like Wellington and points south...though I know people who would argue with me there. teehee.

And what's wrong with Christmas in summer? lol I prefer it actually but then that's what I'm familiar with. Nothing like hitting the beach after opening up the pressies! Although Auckland would be preferable to Exmouth where I lived in Aussie for you. My last X-mas there was 45C lol people would be scraping you off the footpath with a spatula!

And Fresno is an actual city in the Central California valley, about halfway between San Francisco (where I live now) and Los Angeles...where I have lived before and loathed with a passion. And yeah they call SF 'the city' around here...or San Franfrisky if you're talking about the more deviant side of life in said town. ;) And if you think 'Fresno' is bad...

And now I'm rambling. lol

Nah, I'm getting pretty good at working out various local slang terms - my friends list is being added to almost weekly since I began branching out on LJ and being less paranoid :o) I have friends all over the place now.
You're a Kiwi? I'm going to Auckland next summer to visit one of my LJ friends there :oD Of course it'll be winter there, but NZ winter is apparently damp, grey and about 15 degrees C. That's a warm-but-rainy mid-spring day in Scotland. I'm just glad I'm not going for the NZ summer! *envisages sunburn and/or sunstroke within ten minutes of stepping off the plane* I've got the typical Scottish complexion, y'see - only more brownish-auburn than ginger :o) Pale, lotsa freckles, quick to burn. I'd die if I went to NZ at Christmas :o)

'Fresno' sounds like an abbreviation. Like Frisco. And I only know that those guys prefer it to be called 'The City' because of Eddie. Who, I see from your icons, you are a fan of :oD This is good.

And yeah, the jokes are funny :o) Much better than the DJ's, but then DJs have to be lame and cheesy, that's their job.

Probably a good idea. Welcome to my journal! You like the pretty stars? :o)

29?! Impressive. *thinks* I can say it in... about five. The one I'm most proud of is the Russian, because the others are fairly simple (French, Italian, Spanish, German) - I live with Russian speakers (though not for very much longer, hurrah!) and I know a grand total of seven words.

Nothing wrong with Christmas in summer - it's not like I would miss the snow :o) I just mean cos of the heat. Like you said - footpath, spatula. A hot day in Scotland is around 25-30 degrees. Over that would be pushing it, I'd be inside in a cool dark room with a fan and lots of water! :o)

*giggle* San Franfrisky... Oh, you live in SF? How's the fog? :o) And the taxis? Lots of snakes? ...Sorry, I'll stop :o)

Heh, Zzyzx. Thank you Wikipedia for providing a pronunciation guide. Reminds me of Jozxyqk.

I live just outside of SF...far enough inland that it is considered semi desert where I live. And SF is alright, the Castro District is a hoot and half! but the fog, she blows...especially to drive in!
