Fortieth drabble for the doctorwho_100 challenge. I rewatched series one to refresh my memory for the new series, so this popped into my head not long after :o)

Darkness. Wings flapping, invisible in the black. Then silence. Awful, dreadful silence.

The sweet scent of roses hangs in the air. Why doesn't anybody speak, laugh, move?

Light returns. Red is the only colour he can see among the grey. Red petals in their mouths. They lie; silent, still, dead.

He stands, panicking. His men, his responsibility. Killed as he sat there. Why is he left untouched? He wouldn't have stayed dead, but why is he left alone? How will he explain this when he doesn't even understand it himself?

He wakes, gasping, memories fresh. He knows now. They're back.
